On January 12th, 2010 two model galleries of Oc Eo and Champa culture were opened to the public at the Museum of Vietnamese History in Ho Chi Minh city. This is the result of the cooperation program in the museum field between the French and Vietnamese governments. 439 artifacts made of gold, silver, bronze, precious stone, ceramic, wood and sandstone which are the highlight of the museum collections have been exhibited.
The Oc Eo gallery displays objects belonging to the Oc Eo culture (Hau Giang province) and post – Oc Eo culture (I – VII centuries) found in the Mekong River Delta. They are the best evidence of the close trade relation between this region and India.
The Champa gallery includes the collection of Cham sculptural works - of sandstone and bronze - discovered in the Central of Vietnam. This is one of the most complete collections in the world, in addition to the ones of Danang Museum of Cham Sculpture and Museum of Vietnamese History in Ha Noi. It also gives visitors an overview of Cham art from early periods to the XV century.
In general, the objects are displayed on the basis of modern museology, including objects selection, graphics, light setting, and exhibition design. However, this new and modern display method is still in accordance with the original architecture of the museum.
