The Pedestal from Tra Kieu ID No: 22.2 Date: X th century Location: Tra Kieu - Quang Nam The pedestal includes a square base of 1,75 m x 1, 75 m on which is a set of linga-yoni. The under side of the yoni bears a design of lotus petals. The base is carved on all four faces with frieze figures about 15 cm high. There are different interpretations of the friezes on the base of the pesdestal. In 1930, Przyluski claimed that the friezes illustrated the legend of the foundation of Funan, but a year later Coedes rejected this theory and showed that the scenes depicted various episodes of the life of Krishna. Tran Ky Phuong (1983) interpeted the carvings as the scenes of the weddings of Sita in the Ramayana epic. With meticulous carving of the tiny figures and the impression of fleeting joy which they convey, this pedestal is often considered to be one of the masterpieces of the 10th century Cham art.
The Pedestal of Tra Kieu's Dancers ID No: 22.5 Date: X th century (?) Location: Tra Kieu - Quang Nam The two fragments of the pedestal were collected and are on display now in the museum and the original size of the whole pedestal must have been at least three metres on one side by more than 1, 25 metre high. These parts of the pedestal is probably the most renowned and widely-illustrated of all Cham sculptures with the finely carvings of dancers. At first sight, the dancers seem to wear only their jewellery but we may recognise the edge of a fine smooth garment appearing at the neck and naturally re-emergeing as a flap between the legs. The supple curves of the body are charming and sensual.
